Estonia Coastal 3 - Sufficient

Sillamäe beach is a 1200-meter rocky coastline located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland in northeastern Estonia. The beach has a sandy seabed near the waterline that transitions to sandy substrate further out. A well-maintained park lies between the beach and the town of Sillamäe. The bathing water is classified as excellent quality based on microbiological monitoring data from 2010–2014.

Water

Sea water in Narva Bay, Baltic Sea. The water body covers approximately 1200 meters of coastline. Maximum depth is approximately 2.3 meters, with average depth approximately 1.4 meters. The estimated maximum number of visitors during peak season is 11,000 people.

Location

Sillamäe, Ida-Virumaa, northeastern Estonia. The beach is located on former Kannuka village land at the base of Kannuka bank. A parking area is situated approximately 200 meters from the lifeguard tower. An asphalt road connects directly to Sillamäe town center.

Season

Monitoring and classification conducted annually; next review scheduled according to need or if water quality deteriorates.

Water Quality

Bathing water is classified as excellent quality. Between 2010 and 2014, 22 water samples were collected. All samples met the microbiological limit values for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci specified in regulation no. 74 of 2008. Water classification was rated as sufficient in 2011 and good in 2012–2014.
