Smiltynė II is a public bathing beach located in Klaipėda, Lithuania, on the Baltic Sea coast. The beach features a natural sandy shore stretching 1,100 metres with an average water depth of 1.5 metres and maximum depth of 1.7 metres. Water quality has met excellent classification standards from 2018 to 2024 according to EU Directive 2006/7/EB. The beach can accommodate approximately 12,000 visitors during peak season under favourable weather conditions.

Water

Baltic Sea coastal waters. The water body is designated as part of the Nemunas river basin district, specifically the Curonian Lagoon waters dispersing zone in the Baltic Sea. Average annual water depth is 1.5 metres with maximum depth of 1.7 metres. The shore structure is natural sandy beach with no underwater vegetation.

Location

Klaipėda, Lithuania. The bathing water monitoring point is located at coordinates X=55.6769, Y=21.1023. The beach has three permanent toilets located at the beach approach, approximately 120 metres from the water. Parking and facility information available through BĮ Klaipėdos paplūdimiai.

Facilities

Showers available. Three permanent toilets located at beach approach approximately 120 metres from water. Beach has 18 refuse bins with 0.2 cubic metre capacity emptied daily. Five refuse collection containers with 1.5 cubic metre capacity located at beach approach. Pets and other animals are prohibited on the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification has been excellent (puiki kokybė) consistently from 2018 to 2024. Monitoring is conducted according to EU Directive 2006/7/EB. No point source pollution or diffuse pollution sources are present in the impact zone. No surface water bodies in the upstream area pose pollution risks to the bathing water.

Risks

Short-term pollution is possible in the event of a sewerage network emergency. Eutrophication potential exists in bathing waters due to lack of toilets on the beaches. The municipality does not conduct assessment of blue-green algae, macroalgae, or marine phytoplankton proliferation trends.
