Coastal marine water body. The water body is known as Chiatona-Foce Lato. The beach is sandy.

Location

Palagiano, Taranto province, Puglia region. The bathing area covers 2.047 km.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017–2020). No direct wastewater discharges to sea are present. Identified pollution sources include the Fiume Lenne estuary at the northern boundary and the Fiume Lato estuary at the southern boundary. The Fiume Lenne receives discharges from the Palagianello and Chiatona Lido wastewater treatment plants. No short-duration pollution events were recorded in the last four years.

Risks

The area is characterized by potential diffuse pollution sources from agricultural activities and surface runoff. No cyanobacteria or algal blooms have been detected. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains or anomalous situations have been reported in the last four years.
