Risks

Following a 2007 investigation into pollution sources affecting Spittal’s bathing water quality, the water company implemented improvements to the sewer network to reduce the likelihood of storm overflow spills. A combined sewer overflow (CSO) that could discharge onto the beach during heavy rainfall was removed in early 2012.
Further investigations have since been conducted, and 13 storm overflows have been included in the water companies Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) for investment during the 2025-2030 AMP8 period.
