Stadtwaldsee, also known as Unisee, is a bathing lake located in the Horn-Lehe district of Bremen. The lake covers an area of 29.13 hectares with a maximum depth of 15 metres. It is a former quarry lake (Baggersee) that serves as a recreational bathing water body. The water quality classification is determined annually after the bathing season based on monitoring results from the previous four years according to EU Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/EG.

Location

Located in the Horn-Lehe district of Bremen. A DLRG (German lifeguard association) station is present at the lake.

Facilities

DLRG station present. Non-swimmer separation area available. Boat ramp (Slipanlage) available for surfers.

Water Quality

As of 27 November 2025, Burgunderblutalge (a cyanobacterium) has been detected in the lake. Water quality classification is assessed annually after the bathing season based on four years of monitoring data according to EU Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/EG.

Risks

Burgunderblutalge (cyanobacterium) detected. This microscopic blue-green algae can produce toxins, creating potential hazards for water sports participants, aquatic life, and dogs. The toxin can cause skin and mucous membrane irritation, conjunctivitis, allergic reactions, ear pain, and diarrhoeal disease in humans.
