The bathing area at Tutzing South (Südbad) on Lake Starnberg features a large sunbathing area with shallow shore zones and a bathing platform available within the paid Südbad facility. Public toilet facilities are located near the miniature golf course and in the outdoor area of the Südbad. Dining options include a kiosk at the Südbad and a museum ship near the yacht harbor.

Water

Lake Starnberg (Starnberger See), a freshwater lake in Bavaria. Water temperatures during the 2025 bathing season ranged from 12.3°C to 22.1°C.

Location

Tutzing, Lake Starnberg (Starnberger See), southern section. The bathing area is located at the Südbad facility in Tutzing.

Facilities

Lifeguard stations, public toilets, kiosk, shallow shore areas, bathing platform (paid access at Südbad), dining at museum ship and kiosk.

Season

Pre-season testing on 7 May 2025. Seasonal monitoring from 27 May through 9 September 2025. Next planned water quality measurement: end of April 2026.

Water Quality

Water quality classification determined using EU Bathing Water Directive conformity calculations based on data from 2021–2024. All 2025 monitoring samples (May through September) showed no objections (ohne Beanstandung). Enterococci levels ranged from <10 to 21 CFU/100ml. Escherichia coli levels ranged from <10 to 10 CFU/100ml. Bathing prohibition is issued if E. coli exceeds 1,800 CFU/100ml or intestinal enterococci exceed 700 CFU/100ml in a single sample, confirmed by control testing.
