Steamer Quay is within the Dart Estuary near Totnes, Devon, found below the tidal limit. It is a small section of estuary, approximately 150 metres wide, alongside a car park and rowing club. It can be accessed from the steps alongside the quay.

Risks

There are a number of permitted storm overflows that discharge into the River Dart and Estuary. In the 1km section upstream of the designated bathing water, there are several a Combined Sewer Overflows (Steamer Quay CSO, St Katherine’s Way CSO, 31 Fore Street CSO) and a Sewage Pumping Station (St Peter’s Quay PS/EO, Totnes Town PS).

When these outfalls are operating, they discharge diluted effluent into the river which may result in reduced bathing water quality.
