Stoeritzsee Spreeau

Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Störitzsee is an almost circular natural lake with a surface area of 34 hectares and maximum depth of approximately 7 metres, situated about 7 kilometres south-east of Erkner in the Berlin-Fürstenwalde Spree Valley Lowland. The lake is surrounded by pine forest and has neither inflow nor outflow. The water is very clear, with water transparency consistently measured above 1.6 metres during the bathing season. The northern shore has a small village settlement, while the eastern and southern shores are occupied by the extensive Störitzland International Holiday and Youth Camp with camping facilities.

Water

Natural lake with surface area of 34.22 hectares and maximum depth of 7 metres. Water temperature ranges from 13 to 27.9 degrees Celsius with a mean of 22 degrees. pH value averages 8.7. Water transparency at the bathing area averages 2 metres. The lake has sandy geology and sandy shore with natural or semi-natural shore structure. The lake has no inflow or outflow.

Location

Located approximately 7 kilometres south-east of Erkner in the Berlin-Fürstenwalde Spree Valley Lowland. The bathing area Spreeau is situated at Störitzland on the eastern and southern shores of the lake.

Season

Monitoring conducted every four weeks during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent (ausgezeichnet) for monitoring periods 2016–2019, 2017–2020, 2018–2021, 2019–2022, 2020–2023, and 2021–2024. Escherichia coli 95-percentile values: 20–25 per 100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 95-percentile values: 15–50 per 100 ml. No single value exceedances of microbiological parameters E. coli and intestinal enterococci were recorded. Blue-green algae blooms have not been observed.

Risks

Macroalgae and aquatic plants are present. No cyanobacteria blooms have been observed. No danger of future mass development of cyanobacteria. No danger of infection from cercarial dermatitis. Short-term microbiological contamination and other pollution are not expected.
