Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017–2020). No direct wastewater discharge to sea. No pollution sources from wastewater treatment plants, watercourses, or channels have been identified in the bathing profile. No short-term pollution events were recorded in the four years preceding the profile.

Risks

Dinoflagellate microalgae (Ostreopsis ovata) blooms occur seasonally from July to September. Marine organisms including starfish, sea urchins, crabs, and cephalopod mollusks have experienced die-offs and stress during periods of elevated Ostreopsis ovata concentrations. Swimmers have reported transient discomfort including rhinitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, fever, dermatitis, and conjunctivitis during high concentrations of Ostreopsis ovata, particularly after rough seas when sea spray can disperse toxins into the air.
