Torre Ognina is a rocky bathing area in Sicily characterized by rocky terrain with some points of easy access. The zone is bordered by inhabited residential settlements that are primarily occupied during the summer season. It is located north of the Ognina Canal Port and lies between the Cassibile River and the Anapo River. The area extends approximately 1.48 kilometers.

Location

Siracusa (Syracuse), Sicily. The bathing area is located north of the Ognina Canal Port. Coordinates: center at latitude 36.9820, longitude 15.2621.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (reference period 2010–2015). No bathing bans are in place. Short-duration pollution events have not occurred. The area is served by a sewage network that conveys wastewater to the municipal treatment plant.

Risks

Ostreopsis sp. algae was detected. Values exceeding Ostreopsis sp. limits occurred in 2012, 2013, and 2014. A temporary bathing ban was implemented by mayoral ordinance as a precautionary measure.
