Water Quality

Classified as Excellent. Bathing prohibitions were in place from the northern boundary at coordinates 37.7535°N 15.2115°E to 37.7526°N 15.2110°E due to discharge from Mascali municipal sewage. Following removal of civil sewage discharge to the stream in May 2011 and diversion to a consortium treatment plant, microbiological parameters improved significantly. A supplementary monitoring point was established at the stream mouth in February 2012, resulting in reduced prohibition zone. The Anguillara stream was previously a discharge point for Calatabiano municipality and is now subject to monitoring.
