Finland Lake 1 - Excellent

Imatra has four municipal bathing beaches. Ukonlinna and Lempukka are located on Lake Saimaa, while Immalanlietteen and Raution are on Lake Immala. Ukonlinna has an excellent water quality classification and is designated an EU beach. The other beaches are small public bathing areas without assigned water quality classifications. Water quality and cleanliness are monitored regularly at all beaches.

Water

Two water bodies: Lake Saimaa (Ukonlinna and Lempukka beaches) and Lake Immala (Immalanlietteen and Raution beaches). Immalanlietteen is a shallow sand and gravel beach. Raution is a sandy beach that remains shallow for a long distance before deepening steeply. Lempukka is a moderately shallow sandy beach. Ukonlinna is a long, moderately shallow sandy beach.

Facilities

All beaches have changing cabins. Ukonlinna has toilets, WC facilities, and two beach volleyball courts. Immalanlietteen and Lempukka have outdoor toilets. Rescue boats are available during opening hours. No lifeguards are present. Tainionkosken Tähden guesthouse with restaurant and sauna operates at Ukonlinna. Beach volleyball is available at Ukonlinna.

Season

Beaches are open Monday to Friday 08:00–20:00, Saturday and Sunday 10:00–20:00. Changing cabins are unlocked and rescue boats are available during these hours.

Water Quality

Ukonlinna water quality classification is excellent (2022–2024 monitoring results). Classification is based on intestinal enterococci and E. coli bacteria levels and is updated annually. Water temperature on 11 September 2025 was 16 °C at all beaches. Monitoring reports available for June, July, and August 2025.

Risks

Visitors are advised to visually check for blue-green algae conditions before swimming.
