Viljandi town, Estonia. The bathing beach is situated on Viljandi Lake within the city boundaries.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored under European Union Bathing Water Directive 2006/7/EÜ and Estonian national regulations. Microbiological and physicochemical analyses were conducted from 2006 to 2010. Water quality assessment and classification follows EU Directive 76/160/EÜ standards until December 31, 2014, after which Directive 2006/7/EÜ applies.

Risks

Potentially toxic cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms are identified as a potential risk factor. Macroalgae and phytoplankton presence is also monitored.
