Villaggio del Sole is a bathing area in Bergeggi, Liguria, characterised by sandy beach to the west and rocky cliffs with small mixed pebble-sandy bays to the east. The area forms part of the protected marine area of Bergeggi Island. The bathing zone is classified as coastal waters with mountainous terrain and low stability.

Water Quality

Water quality classified under the 2008-2011 classification scheme as CWA3 (coastal waters with mountainous terrain and low stability). No active wastewater treatment plants or coastal sewage systems are present in the area. Cyanobacterial blooms are not characteristic of the Ligurian Sea due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been recorded in the past four years.

Risks

River mouth discharges identified as pollution sources. A modelling approach for characterising short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations is under development.
