Wellier Kolk

Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Wellier Kolk is a natural bathing lake approximately 12 hectares in size located on the left bank of the Weser River, southeast of the village of Wellie. It is a former Weser side channel that is popular with swimmers and anglers. The bathing area is restricted to a designated beach section with a small sandy beach and a meadow for sunbathing.

Former Weser side channel (inland lake), approximately 12 hectares in area, designated as Binnensee (inland lake).

Location

Southeast of Wellie on the Weser River. The bathing area has changing cabins and a meadow for lying down.

Facilities

Small sandy beach, meadow for sunbathing, changing cabins.

Water Quality

EU classification: Excellent quality (percentile assessment according to Directive 2006/7/EC). The risk of water quality impairment from land use in the catchment area is classified as low. No mass occurrences of macroalgae or phytoplankton were observed in recent years.

Risks

Mass development of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) has not been observed in recent years but may occur during very warm summer months. The potential for mass proliferation is currently classified as low.
