The bathing area is a predominantly sandy beach with over 99% sand composition and a median grain size of 0.244 mm, located in Montesilvano, Abruzzo. The area is surrounded by significant urban settlements and tourism-related structures. The beach is 70 meters wide and extends over 2 kilometers. The Fosso Vallicella stream mouth is present in the examined section.

Coastal marine water body classified as C2 (Coastal Waters - Pianura Litoranea - Media Stabilità). The bathing area covers approximately 2 kilometers in extension with 83,460 square meters designated for bathing out of 187,131 square meters total.

Location

Montesilvano, Pescara province, Abruzzo region, Italy. The bathing zone is situated along the coastal plains with medium stability characteristics. Parking and beach facilities including stabilimenti balneari (beach establishments), shops, and a seafront promenade are available.

Beach establishments (stabilimenti balneari), shops, parking, recreational zones, hotels, seafront promenade, cycling path. Animal access is prohibited by regional ordinance; municipal regulations for designated dog areas are under development.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. No cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded in the marine waters off the Abruzzo coast. Summer periods show sparse phytoplankton blooms with isolated dinoflagellate occurrences lacking toxic species. No anomalous events have been recorded. Wastewater is conveyed by a coastal collector to the Montesilvano treatment plant, which discharges treated effluent into the Saline river.

Risks

The Fosso Vallicella stream mouth is identified as a pollution source. Short-duration pollution events are under study with an appropriate modelling approach. No anomalous events have been recorded.
