A flat sandy beach located in Alba Adriatica, Abruzzo, with a pine forest (pineta) in the southern area on state-owned maritime land. The beach has an average width of 150 metres from the waterline to the promenade hedge and experiences erosion phenomena, though less pronounced than in the northern part. The area is situated almost at the geographical centre of the city and is heavily used for bathing with numerous beach facilities.

Water

Coastal waters in a plain littoral zone with medium stability. The water body is part of the Tronto-Riccio hydrological unit (IT_12_TRONTO_RICCIO). The bathing area extends 1.33 square kilometres.

Location

Alba Adriatica, Province of Teramo, Abruzzo region. The bathing zone is located opposite Via Sardegna and is bordered to the west by the seafront with its bicycle and pedestrian path.

Facilities

9 free beaches, 14 beach facility concessions, 14 hospitality facility concessions, 3 seasonal installations for leisure activities, 2 boat zones. Animals are prohibited by regional ordinance and beach regulations.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT. The sewage system serves 100% of Alba Adriatica's inhabitants. A consortium treatment plant jointly operated with Martinsicuro has a capacity of 92,000 equivalent inhabitants and includes three treatment lines: one with biodiscs and two with activated sludge and final disinfection. Discharge analyses show the plant operates in compliance with Legislative Decree 152/06. The depurator is monitored as an environmental concern due to its proximity to the Vibrata River.

Risks

Stormwater discharge pipes to sea (condotte acque meteoriche a mare) are identified as a source of short-term pollution impacts and are under study for appropriate modelling approach. No cyanobacterial blooms have been observed in the marine waters off the Abruzzo coast in recent years. Sparse algal blooms (dinoflagellate blooms) have occurred in past summer periods with scarce or absent toxic species.
