Sandy beach with over 98% sand content and medium grain size (D50 = 0.394 mm), located 100 metres south of the Pretaro stream mouth. The area is surrounded by numerous urban settlements and tourism-related structures. The beach is classified as excellent quality water.

Coastal water body covering 1.6 km², classified as medium-stability coastal plain waters. Sandy-pebbly beach type.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Two wastewater treatment plants serve the area: Francavilla-Foro plant (150 kW capacity, serving max 38,000 inhabitants, 96% connection rate, submarine outfall to 2,000 m) and Francavilla-Pretaro plant (135 kW capacity, serving max 38,000 inhabitants, 96% connection rate, submarine outfall to 2,000 m). A third treatment plant on the Alento River is under construction. River Foro and River Alento identified as other pollution sources.

Risks

Animals are prohibited in the bathing water area under regional regulation. River mouth discharges are identified as a pollution source. No cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded. Rare phytoplankton blooms occur in summer with low presence of toxic species. No anomalous events have occurred.
