Bratten and Strandby is a sandy beach with a sandy bottom stretching approximately 4 km along the coast. The beach width varies from 25 to 35 meters. Water depth is shallow, approximately 0.5 meters at 30 meters from shore, 1 meter at 50 meters from shore, and 1.5 meters at 75 meters from shore. The water is salt with weak currents flowing from varying directions, predominantly towards the north and east. Water clarity is good, with visibility exceeding 1 meter. There are few or no algae present, and no cyanobacteria detected.

Location

Located in Frederikshavn Municipality, Denmark. The bathing water profile extends along the coast with sampling points indicated on the profile map.

Water Quality

Water is monitored for faecal bacteria E. coli and Enterococcus throughout the bathing season. Both bacteria are indicators found in human and warm-blooded animal intestines. Water quality is classified as excellent, good, satisfactory, or poor based on samples from the last 4 seasons. Classification can be determined as excellent or good.

Risks

Two overflow structures discharge wastewater to the sea during heavy rain. One discharges to Rugholm Stream; the other discharges just north of Strandby Harbour. Swimming is discouraged during and immediately after heavy rain in and around Rugholm Stream and on beaches north of the harbour due to potential faecal contamination.
