Bratten and Strandby is a sandy beach bathing area extending approximately 4 kilometres along the coast. The beach has a sand bottom and varying width of 25 to 35 metres. Water depth is shallow, measuring approximately 0.5 metres at 30 metres from shore, 1 metre at 50 metres from shore, and 1.5 metres at 75 metres from shore. The water is salt and has weak currents from varying directions, predominantly flowing north and east. Water clarity exceeds 1 metre visibility. The water is clear with few or no algae and no cyanobacteria present.

Water depth: approximately 0.5 metres at 30 metres from shore, 1 metre at 50 metres from shore, and 1.5 metres at 75 metres from shore. Water currents are weak and from varying directions, predominantly north and east.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored for the bacteria E. coli and Enterococci throughout the bathing season from 1 June to 1 September. Water quality classification is determined from samples collected over the previous 4 seasons. The water can be classified as excellent, good, satisfactory, or poor. Current classification: Excellent.

Risks

Two overflow structures discharge wastewater to the sea during rain. One structure discharges to Rugholm å; the other discharges north of Strandby Harbour. Swimming is advised against during and immediately after heavy rain in the vicinity of Rugholm å and on beaches north of the harbour due to faecal bacterial contamination from intestinal bacteria.
