This bathing water is located 200 metres south of Punta Vignola on a mixed sandy and pebbly beach in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The beach is approximately 20 metres wide and receives around 200 bathers per day during the bathing season. The area is characterized by agricultural land with sparse settlements and no industrial activity.

Water

Coastal water with medium stability. The bathing point is situated on a mixed sandy and pebbly beach.

Location

Vignola, Vasto municipality, Chieti province, Abruzzo region, Italy. A nearby camping facility (Camping Grotta del Saraceno) is located in the immediately adjacent area. The bathing water area covers 0.630 square kilometres.

Facilities

Lifeguard and first aid services are active during the bathing season. Services include accessible facilities for disabled persons, toilets, and food service points. A reception facility (camping) is present immediately above the beach area.

Season

Summer bathing season. Monitoring was updated and reviewed in 2025, with the profile originally prepared in February 2021.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT. The area has no sewage collection or treatment network. Surrounding houses, mostly used during summer months, have septic tanks. No wastewater discharges are present in the area. Potential pollution could result from dispersion from septic tanks, which is under study using appropriate modelling approaches.

Risks

Algal bloom of Ostreopsis ovata occurred in August and September 2023. Past algal blooms of dinoflagellates have been recorded with scarce or no presence of toxic species. Cyanobacterial blooms have not been recorded in the marine waters of the Abruzzo area. Temporary bathing prohibition zones were established 300 metres north and 50 metres south of the sampling point.
