A coastal bathing area located 200 metres north of Canalone Artino near Cirò Marina in Calabria. The beach features sandy-pebble substrate with a geomorphological descriptor of narrow strait coastline. The seabed slopes gently from the waterline to the 5-metre depth contour at an average gradient of 1.4%. Sediment grain size in the submarine beach ranges from 0.13 to 2 millimetres.

Coastal water body (Melissa – Cirò). Area extent: 0.424 square kilometres. Sandy-pebble beach with average seabed slope of 1.4% from the waterline to the 5-metre isobath.

Location

Cirò Marina, Crotone Province, Calabria region. The bathing area is situated in front of the inhabited centre of Cirò Marina.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. No specific active measures are currently in place for wastewater treatment.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events caused by runoff from urban areas have been identified, with responsibility shared between the municipality and province. Cyanobacterial proliferation and macroalgal/phytoplankton proliferation have not occurred in the past four years.
