Aberta Nova is a coastal bathing water on the moderately exposed mesotidal Atlantic coast with a tidal regime of 3.5 m. The sandy beach is 70 to 80 metres wide. During the bathing season, the site experiences average rainfall of 10.1 mm, average air temperature of 27 °C, prevailing northwest winds, and approximately 10 daily hours of sunshine.

Coastal water body, moderately exposed mesotidal Atlantic coast. Water body code: PTCOST12. River basin: Ribeiras Costeiras entre Sado e Mira. Tidal regime of 3.5 m. Sandy beach width of 70 to 80 metres.

Location

Municipality of Grândola. Monitoring point coordinates: Longitude -8.78175°, Latitude 38.1775° (ETRS89 coordinate system).

Season

May 31 to September 28, 2025. Monthly sampling frequency.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2024 determined under Decreto-Lei nº 135/09 (June 3) as amended by Decreto-Lei nº 113/2012 (May 23). The bathing water is not subject to any negative influence regarding its microbiological quality. No pollution episodes are expected to affect bathing water quality.

Risks

Short-term pollution (lasting less than 72 hours) is unlikely or presents low risk. No days of bathing prohibition or advisory against bathing due to short-term pollution events occurred during the 2024 bathing season. Proliferation of cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton is unlikely.
