Abitazione Alta di Fronte Olivetti is a bathing beach in Senigallia, Marche region, with fine quartz and feldspar sand of calcareous nature. The beach has a gentle slope of 3% and is protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The beach extends 800 metres in length and 120 metres in width, with a maximum distance of 80 metres between water and the safe water boundary. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with a railway line passing through.

Water Quality

Classification E. Water quality monitored for Escherichia coli by ARPAM throughout 2010, with results ranging from below determination limit to 300 CFU/100 ml. Sewage treatment is provided by a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 20,000 cubic metres per day serving approximately 39,300 population equivalents from urban areas plus 770 from industrial activities. During heavy rainfall, overflow discharges from combined sewers occur at multiple outlets (Fosso Paradisi, Fosso Emmesole, Fosso Rognoli).

Risks

Overflow discharges during heavy rainfall from combined sewerage system. Phytoplankton proliferation of Fibrocapsa japonica (non-toxic) occurred in August 2009, causing reddish-brown discolouration and oily water consistency. No short-term pollution events or cyanobacteria proliferation reported.
