Aittolampi

Finland Lake 1 - Excellent

Aittolampi is a lake bathing beach located in Kulho, Kontiolahti, with a sandy beach approximately 30 metres long bordered partly by forest. The water is clear with numerous natural springs and significant groundwater discharge in the area. The beach has a gradually deepening sandy bottom and is estimated to receive over 100 swimmers per day during the bathing season.

Water

Lake (Aittolampi). Clear water with numerous springs and abundant groundwater discharge. Sand bottom. Gradually deepening beach. Located in the Vuoksi watershed (04.821).

Location

Located in Kulho, Kontiolahti, on Kerolantie. Parking available at the nearby P-area with directional signage.

Facilities

Changing facilities, outdoor toilet (located further from shore), three rubbish bins, rescue ring, throw line, notice board with emergency instructions. Parking area with signage nearby.

Season

15 June to 31 August. Water quality sampling occurs four times: first sample two weeks before season start, then three samples at three-week intervals during the season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2011-2021). Monitored four times per season (minimum requirement) with sampling depth approximately 30 cm at 2 m from shore. All samples from 2018-2021 showed E. coli and enterococci levels well below action thresholds (E. coli: <1000 pmy/mpn/100 ml; enterococci: <400 pmy/mpn/100 ml). No deviations recorded in 2018-2021.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) were observed in some summers before sewerage installation; none detected for ten years since sewerage was established. Low probability of harmful macroalgae or phytoplankton blooms.
