Aldeia Viçosa is a bathing water located on the right bank of the Mondego River, downstream of the Caldeirão dam, within the Serra da Estrela Natural Park. It is classified as a Type II beach, with surrounding rural settlement complemented by facilities that enhance the natural setting.

Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Sampling frequency is 1 sample per week. No short-term pollution events occurred during the 2024 bathing season. Potential microbiological pollution sources include diffuse sources upstream from agricultural or domestic activities, solid waste from beach activities, flora and fauna, high user numbers, and dam discharge upstream.

Risks

Cyanobacteria and macroalgae proliferation is likely. Phytoplankton proliferation is most likely. In case of water pollution affecting bathing suitability, bathing is advised against or prohibited.
