Alvor Nascente is a coastal bathing water located on an urban beach with intensive use in Portimão municipality. It features a wide golden sand beach approximately 1150 metres long with carbonated cliffs to the east and some rock formations within the bathing area. A temporary watercourse ends on the beach. The tidal range is 3.4 metres with a mean wave height of 0.5 metres and predominant northwest wind direction.

Water Quality

Water quality classification of 2022 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09. Monthly sampling conducted during bathing season. Alvor Nascente (PTCW7C) and Alvor Poente (PTCF7T) are grouped together with this monitoring point representing the group. No days of bathing prohibition or warning due to short-term pollution occurred in bathing season 2022.

Risks

Short-term microbiological contamination is scarce but may occur due to sporadic malfunction of sanitation infrastructures, rainwater drainage systems, or heavy rainfall events causing surface run-off and overflows. Cyanobacteria proliferation is unlikely. Macroalgae proliferation is uncommon. Phytoplankton proliferation is unlikely.
