Anthéor is a cove beach located in the Anthéor district of Saint-Raphaël, Var, France. The beach extends approximately 90 meters in length with a maximum width of 38 meters and consists naturally of sand, rocks, and small creeks. The bathing zone covers approximately 6,980 square meters and is configured as an open bay with water circulation flowing from east to west, allowing for rapid water renewal. The beach is publicly accessible with no special amenities and benefits from clear seawater.

Water

Seawater. Beach area of 3,420 m². Bathing zone of approximately 6,980 m². Open bay configuration with water circulation from east to west. Coastal currents typically below 0.12 m/s, reaching maximum 0.4 m/s during exceptional storm surge conditions. Water renewal time varies: approximately 1.5 hours at 2 m/s wind speed, 1 hour at 4 m/s wind speed, and 0.6 hours at 8 m/s wind speed.

Location

Anthéor district, Saint-Raphaël, Var, France. Access via Boulevard de la plage (also known as RD 559). Free parking available on public roads.

Facilities

Public toilets with disabled access (PMR UFR). Public showers with disabled access (PMR UFR). Emergency assistance beacon on public road facing the beach, operational 24/7, equipped with buttons for municipal police and fire emergency services (112), with automatic call geolocation and weekly verification.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as 'Excellent' by the ARS (Regional Health Agency) based on monitoring data from 2008 to 2013. Analysis of 100 samples from May to September: no exceedances of mandatory limits for Escherichia coli except for isolated instances (20% in 2008, 5% in 2009, 0% from 2011-2013), and one exceedance of mandatory limits for intestinal enterococci. Five analyses showed Escherichia coli results between 100 and 1000 CFU/100mL classified as 'moderate'.

Risks

Five stormwater outfalls discharge onto or near the beach, including one major outlet east of the beach stairs that collects waters from the Anthéor ravine. One wastewater pumping station (PR Viaduc Anthéor) located on the parking area near the beach collects approximately 43 m³ daily; malfunction or overload from heavy precipitation could cause discharge of wastewater into the natural environment, though risks are low due to system security and alarm system. No known phytoplankton blooms or risk of Ostreopsis spp. bloom due to open bay configuration.
