Attersee, Steinbach

Austria Lake 1 - Excellent

Attersee is Austria's largest inland lake by surface area, covering more than 46 km². The water is exceptionally clear with visibility depths up to 20 m and exhibits characteristic turquoise coloration resulting from biological limestone precipitation in the water caused by plankton algae metabolism. The lake has extremely low nutrient loading and is the clearest lake in Upper Austria.

Located in Upper Austria. The monitoring point is at Steinbach on the eastern shore of Attersee. The responsible district authority (Bezirkshauptmannschaft Vöcklabruck) is located at Sportplatzstraße 1-3, 4840 Vöcklabruck.
