Water

Coastal bathing water in the Saint-Brieuc Bay area. Tidal currents are present in the bay, with maximum tidal currents documented. The water body is subject to freshwater inputs from the Ic river and the Gué Esnart stream.

Location

Binic, Brittany. The bathing water is located at the Avant-Port in Binic.

Water Quality

Water quality monitoring was conducted from 2004 to 2014, measuring E. coli and enterococci concentrations. The 95th and 90th percentiles were tracked for both parameters over the monitoring period. Contamination levels were influenced by rainfall events and river discharge. A shellfish harvesting area (zone conchylicole) was also monitored in the vicinity.

Risks

Bacterial contamination from multiple sources identified including permanent natural flows, rainwater runoff, collective wastewater treatment, non-collective sanitation systems, and agricultural activities. River discharge from the Ic and Gué Esnart streams contributes to pollution. Contamination increases during rainfall events. Wastewater treatment plant discharge and sewage connection issues were documented.
