Baunach Baggersee, also known as Brückenhaussee, is an excavated lake used for bathing. Blue-green algae have been detected in the water. The water quality achieved stage 2 cyanobacteria conditions, characterized by streaks of cyanobacteria or greenish turbidity with visibility less than 1 metre. A bathing warning has been issued.

Excavated lake (Baggersee).

Location

Accessible from Bamberg via Breitengüßbach. At the town centre traffic light, turn left toward Baunach. Cross the motorway and turn left onto a small field path at the first right curve. Follow this path for approximately 100 metres.

Facilities

Lifeguards present on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Showers and toilets available.

Water Quality

Current EU classification (2025): Excellent bathing water quality. Previous year classifications: 2024 Excellent, 2023 Good, 2021 Good, 2020 Good, 2019 Excellent, 2018 Excellent, 2017 Excellent, 2016 Excellent, 2015 Excellent. Recent bacteriological test results show all samples within acceptable limits. Cyanobacteria present at stage 2 level.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) detected. Stage 2 cyanobacteria conditions with streaks or greenish turbidity and visibility less than 1 metre. Bathing warning in effect.
