Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Riedlingen Gravel Pit is an attractive recreational area in the southwest of Donauwörth created through the reclamation of several gravel pits. The site was transformed to include parking areas, sunbathing meadows, toilet facilities, changing rooms, beach volleyball courts, a playground, and a kiosk with a water rescue observation room. The recreational area is easily accessible via the B 16 federal highway.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on EU Bathing Water Directive assessment using conformity calculations from 2021 to 2024. Monitoring results from May to September 2025 show Escherichia coli levels ranging from <10 to 21 MPN/100 ml and intestinal enterococci levels ranging from <10 to 65 MPN/100 ml. All samples assessed as bacteriologically unobjectionable. Cyanobacteria occurrence is not factored into the official classification.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) have been detected repeatedly in past years and may occur annually depending on weather conditions. Risk is particularly elevated during prolonged dry periods without rainfall. Swimmers are advised to avoid contact if cyanobacteria are sighted.
