Bellaria - Foce Uso 100m S is a sandy beach bathing area located in Bellaria Igea Marina in the Rimini province of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The beach extends for approximately 300 metres and is situated in the central-southern area of the Adriatic coast. It is a high-tourism zone with numerous hotels and beach establishments, and a constant lifeguard service during the bathing season. The area has undergone sand replenishment interventions and the river mouth jetty was extended in 2024.

Water

Coastal marine waters in an alluvial plain with high stability. The bathing area covers 0.348 km². The beach width is 40–60 metres as of 2018. No watercourses discharge into this bathing water profile, nor are there direct discharges to sea.

Location

Bellaria Igea Marina, Rimini province, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area is located 100 metres south of the Uso River mouth and borders the harbour area of Bellaria Igea Marina to the north.

Facilities

Four beach establishments with first aid services, toilet facilities including disabled access, hot showers, no architectural barriers, refreshment points, and sports structures. Lifeguard service is present during the bathing season.

Season

Official monitoring occurs during the bathing season. A temporary ban was issued by municipal order 269 on 27 July 2022 and revoked by municipal order 279 on 28 July 2022.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good (reference years 2021–2024). Escherichia coli at 90th percentile: 251 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 415 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci at 90th percentile: 28 CFU/100 ml; at 95th percentile: 36 CFU/100 ml. An anomalous event occurred on 26 July 2022 when Escherichia coli exceeded the legal limit; this was classified as an anomalous situation by the European Commission and replaced with data from the next sampling on 27 July 2022.

Risks

The Uso River mouth is located north of the bathing area and can activate discharges during heavy rainfall. Phytoplankton bloom (Fibrocapsa japonica) was recorded in July 2022. The river mouth proximity can trigger eutrophication phenomena. No cyanobacterial bloom events have been reported in the last four years.
