Bernsteinsee is a gravel pit lake located approximately 7 km north of Berlin, directly on the Berliner Ring autobahn. It is the largest of a group of extraction lakes created in the 1970s during autobahn construction in the Zehdenick-Spandau Havel Lowland. The lake covers 12 hectares with a maximum depth of 10 m and a mean depth of 3.6 m, fed by groundwater with no surface inflows. It is fully developed for recreation with diverse leisure facilities including a major beach sports centre, waterski installation, swimming areas, and food services.
