Water Quality

Bathing water quality is classified according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring includes statistical analysis of official surveillance data and self-monitoring data. Analysis of beach closures has been conducted. Water quality is influenced by bacteriological pollution sources including urban runoff, wastewater treatment discharge, and contributions from watercourses.

Risks

Potential pollution sources include urban context, non-collective sanitation systems, rainwater networks, parasitic clear waters, birds and other animals, port activities, ferries, and watercourse contributions. Other nuisances identified include cyanobacteria, phytoplankton, Ostreopsis, macroalgae, jellyfish, marine debris, and hydrocarbons.
