Brienon-sur-Armançon bathing zone is located on the Armançon River, a right-bank tributary of the Yonne River, in the southeast sector of the commune in Yonne (89), France. The bathing area covers approximately 1200 square metres with an average depth of 1.25 metres, reaching a maximum of about 2 metres on the opposite bank. The natural beach consists of a grassy zone on the left bank with a pebble and gravel bank providing access to the water. Prior to reopening in summer 2017, improvements including a sandy and gravelled beach with gentle slope access over 30 metres in length and 6 metres in width were planned to ensure safe water entry for swimmers.

Running freshwater river. The Armançon River is a right-bank tributary of the Yonne River. The bathing zone covers approximately 1200 square metres with average depth of 1.25 metres and maximum depth of approximately 2 metres. The gradient of the minor riverbed is 0.159%. Bathers have access to a reduced section of approximately 25 metres along the shoreline.

Brienon-sur-Armançon commune, Yonne (89), France, southeast sector. The bathing zone is situated along the Armançon River in the left bank area.

Season

Planned reopening for summer 2017.

Water Quality

Until 2005, water quality controls were regularly performed by the Regional Health Agency (ARS). The site was subsequently left in a wild state. European Directive 2006/7/CE applies, with monitoring focused on two bacteriological parameters: E. coli and enterococci. The profile document identifies potential pollution sources including domestic wastewater, storm water networks, agricultural activities, and industrial activities.

Risks

Repeated flooding of the river affects the naturally dynamic beach. Storm water discharge, domestic wastewater, agricultural runoff, and industrial discharge represent potential pollution sources. Risk of accidental pollution on the basin exists. Swimmers are prohibited from venturing beyond the authorised 25-metre shoreline section and are instructed not to venture further at their own risk.
