BUGA-See is a 33.7-hectare lake in Kassel created in 1981 during the Federal Garden Show through gravel extraction in the groundwater zone. The lake lies in the Fulda floodplain and is used for leisure activities including swimming, sailing, windsurfing, and fishing. The water is heavily nutrient-loaded, resulting in frequent strong algae development in summer and risk of cyanobacteria blooms that can cause water cloudiness. The lake features multiple bathing areas with diverse infrastructure including restaurants, toilets, meadows, and a playground.
