Cabedelo is a rural beach with a wide sand strip and a consolidated dune system in accretion. It has a pier perpendicular to the shoreline and encompasses the Cabedelo and Luziamar concessions.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009. Sampling frequency is every 2 weeks. No days of bathing being advised against or prohibited occurred in the 2024 bathing season due to short-term pollution events.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive flow of tributary watercourses during rainfall events, marine pipe rupture, or vessel contaminations. Potential microbiological pollution sources include the Lima River to the north, the Rodanho creek to the south, a marine discharge pipe from Portucel (2 km from the coast), and Viana do Castelo Seaport. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with historical record of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no historical record of occurrence.
