Water Quality

Water quality classification established in 2024 under Decreto-Lei 135/09. A bathing ban was issued from July 30 to August 1, 2024, due to high microbiological indicator values associated with intense and short-lived precipitation. Water quality returned to bathing suitability class following re-sampling on August 1, 2025. Potential sources of microbiological pollution include solid waste from beach activities and a high number of users.

Risks

Potential for cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation is likely. Diffuse sources of pollution affect microbiological water quality. Short-term pollution events from intense precipitation can occur.
