Colmeal is a bathing water location on the Ceira River, a mountain river that originates in the Serra do Açor and is a tributary of the left bank of the Mondego River, into which it flows a few meters upstream of Coimbra.

Season

June 28 to August 31, 2025. Sampling frequency: 1 sample per week.

Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 of June 3rd, amended by Decreto-Lei nº 113/2012 of May 23rd. A bathing ban was issued between July 30 and August 1, 2024, due to high values of microbiological indicators caused by intense precipitation and diffuse pollution sources. A subsequent sample on August 1, 2025, showed return to bathing suitability class and the ban was lifted. Bathing was advised against or prohibited for 2 days during the 2024 bathing season due to short-term pollution events.

Risks

Solid waste from beach activities, flora and fauna, high number of users. Cyanobacteria have likely potential for proliferation. Macroalgae and phytoplankton have likely potential for proliferation.
