Location

Monasterace, Calabria, Italy. The bathing area is situated between the mouth of the Fiumara Stilaro and the town centre of Monasterace.

Water quality classification: Excellent. The water body is monitored as part of the Fiumara Stilaro hydrographic basin.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified: mouth of the Fiumara Stilaro, urban runoff from Monasterace, agricultural runoff, and occasional wastewater treatment plant malfunctions at the Monasterace biological treatment facility located at Lambrosi. No algal or cyanobacterial blooms have been recorded in the past four years.
