Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2017–2020). A potential point source of pollution exists at the southern boundary where the Canale Ostone channel discharges, connected to the Lizzano wastewater treatment plant. No direct wastewater discharges to the sea are present at this location.

Risks

The Canale Ostone channel mouth at the southern boundary is identified as a potential pollution source. No cyanobacterial or toxic algal blooms have been detected in the past four years. No short-term contamination events have been recorded in the past four years.
