Carnon, Pays de l'Or region, southern France. The bathing area comprises Petit Travers and Les Dunes beaches.

Water Quality

Bathing water quality is classified under the 2006 European Directive. Bacteriological monitoring is conducted regularly. Water quality assessments consider macro-algae proliferation potential, phytoplankton proliferation potential, cyanobacteria proliferation potential, and jellyfish invasion episodes. Historical beach closures due to water quality have been recorded.

Potential pollution sources include wastewater treatment plant discharges, storm water overflows from Carnon, combined sewer discharges, rainwater runoff, non-collective sanitation systems, diffuse agricultural pollution, camping activities, port activities, and camper vehicle discharges. Wind and rainfall influence water quality variability.
