Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Directive 2006. Bacteriological quality monitoring has been conducted with historical beach closure records. Quality trends and classifications are documented. Shellfish farming zones and foot-fishing areas are monitored under prefectoral order. Water quality is influenced by rain and wind conditions.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified including wastewater treatment discharge, storm overflow discharge, non-collective sanitation, diffuse pollution from agriculture and golf courses, point and accidental pollution from port and campervans, animal contamination, and thalassotherapy facilities. Macro-algae and phytoplankton proliferation potential assessed. Jellyfish invasion episodes studied.
