Širvėnos ežero centrinė maudykla is a public bathing beach located on Širvėnos Lake in the Nemunėlio river basin, within the Lielajupė river basin district. The beach features a natural sandy structure approximately 150 meters long with an average water depth of 1 meter and a maximum depth of 2 meters. The shoreline consists of sand and light clay soil with natural water vegetation.

Facilities

1 outdoor toilet, 1 changing cabin. Bins provided. Functional zones include sports, swimming, and rest areas. Approximate maximum visitor capacity 100 people during peak season under favorable weather conditions.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent in 2024. In 2022–2023 the water quality met good quality requirements. In 2020–2021 it met satisfactory quality requirements. Water quality assessment based on four-year monitoring data. The water body is designated as at-risk and classified as problematic according to lake studies. Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) were detected at 408,110.45 to 520,912.1 cells/ml in July–August 2020; swimming was prohibited from July 22, 2020 through the end of the season. Temporary pollution was recorded on June 19, 2023, with intestinal bacteria and enterococci exceeding permitted levels; subsequent samples met requirements.

Risks

Blue-green algae blooms occurred in 2020 due to hydrological drought reducing water levels, favorable water temperatures for bacterial growth, and eutrophication processes in the lake. Eutrophication affects water quality. Surface runoff from heavy rainfall may impact water quality under adverse weather conditions. Temporary pollution with intestinal bacteria and enterococci occurred in 2023.
