Water Quality

Water quality is monitored under the ARS bathing water surveillance programme and the IFREMER REMI monitoring point programme for the mussel farming zone. Monitoring focuses on enterococci and E. coli concentrations. Exceedances of quality standards have been recorded. Water quality classification is subject to seasonal and hydrological variations.

Identified pollution sources include: a wastewater treatment plant (Gripp station) with recorded overflows, permanent watercourse discharge, rainfall runoff, non-collective wastewater treatment installations, and tidal influence. E. coli concentrations have exceeded standard thresholds. Rainfall, seasonality, and tidal coefficients impact pollution episodes.
