Crismina is a long sandy beach of great natural beauty located in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. The beach has an extensive sandy area surrounded by cliffs, with the Crismina Stream flowing into it. It is characterized by agitated sea conditions and strong winds, which lead to the formation of the Guincho-Crismina dune system.

Season

1 May to 15 October. Sampling frequency: weekly.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: 2023. Contamination risk is very low based on water quality history. Potential pollution sources include river discharge from the Crismina Stream and sewerage network failure. Short-term pollution events may occur due to excessive river discharge after rainfall, but are unlikely to last more than 1–2 days. No days of bathing advisories due to short-term pollution were recorded in the 2023 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution risk is low but may occur due to excessive river discharge during rainfall events or sewerage network failure at the nearby Crismina pumping station. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation are all unlikely.
