Cugno della Macchia is a sandy coastal bathing beach located in Villapiana, Calabria. The beach features a straight sandy shore with a medium seabed gradient of 2.5% from the waterline to the 5-meter isobat. Underwater bars and ridges are present in series. The beach sediments have medium granulometry ranging from 0.018 to 2 millimetres.

Location

Villapiana, Cosenza province, Calabria region. The beach is situated south of the Caldana Stream in an area adjacent to wooded and agricultural territories.

Water quality classification: Excellent. No specific management measures are currently active.

Risks

The Caldana Stream mouth has been identified as a potential pollution source. Short-duration pollution events can occur due to runoff from agricultural and urban areas. No cyanobacterial or algal blooms have been recorded in the past four years.
