A sandy beach with fine sand and a gentle 3% slope in both the emerged and submerged zones. The beach is protected by artificial rocky outcrops and extends approximately 80 meters between mean low and high water marks. The surrounding area is densely urbanised with a railway line passing through it. The beach has a mean width of 60 meters.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E (poorest quality). The area is served by a mixed public sewerage system connected to a treatment plant with a pump station and overflow structures. The treatment plant is a biological facility with activated sludge, designed for 35,000 population equivalents, located at Contrada S. Leonardo and serving Grottammare. From 2006–2007, the plant demonstrated good efficiency with COD, BOD5, and suspended solids parameters always compliant. Microbiological controls in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were all compliant.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events identified: accidental faults and overflow from pump station via Dalla Chiesa. No cyanobacterial proliferation reported. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species proliferation reported.
