Two bathing areas are located on the As Conchas Reservoir in Galicia, Spain: Muiños (also known as O Corgo – A Rola) and Bande (also known as Portoquintela). The reservoir is situated along the Limia River at an altitude of 550 metres and covers 645 hectares with a volume of 78.33 cubic hectometres. The bathing areas feature sandy and gravel beaches with grass vegetation. Both sites are situated in a heavily modified water body and are located near the O Xurés Natural Park.

Water

Reservoir (embalse) on the Limia River. Surface area: 645 hectares. Volume: 78.33 cubic hectometres. Maximum normal water level: 549 metres. Bed composed of clay and silt. Substrate primarily migmatite rock. Single spillway with capacity of 900 cubic metres per second.

Location

Muiños area: From Bande, take the OU-540 to the dam, turn left and follow OU-1202 towards Mugueimes; the bathing area is a few metres beyond the village. Bande area (Portoquintela): From Bande, take OU-540 towards Embalse As Conchas, pass Os Baños village, and at Quintela turn left onto a narrow road marked with an archaeological Roman site sign (ARQVIS); descend the slope to find the bathing area on the right. Muiños has parking available; Bande has no parking.

Water Quality

Both bathing areas were monitored from 2011 to 2015 for faecal contamination. Water quality classification conducted according to Royal Decree 1341/2007 (11 October) on bathing water quality management. Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations measured in CFU/100 ml compared against sufficient quality thresholds (90th percentile).
